  • “What Community Is All About” – Punjabi Couple Makes Pakoras For Their Neighbour Abroad, Win Hearts Online

A viral video showing a heartwarming foodie interaction between a Punjabi couple and their neighbour has received applause from many people online.

A viral video showing a heartwarming foodie interaction between a Punjabi couple and their neighbour has received applause from many people online.

The Punjabi woman also places a second dish on the boundary wall and tells Penny there’s another plate of food for her. She also gives Penny a glass filled with chutney and explains to her that she must put it on top of the “fried stuff.” Since her hands are already full with two plates, she tells them to wait for her to come back and take the chutney from them.

The video also gives us a glimpse of how the pakoras were made earlier. We see the man seated above a big kadhai filled with hot oil. He takes large portions of the prepared pakora mixture into his fist and carefully drops parts of it into the oil to fry them until crisp. “Punjabi parents love feeding their neighbours,” reads the text on the video. In the caption, the user wrote, “We love our neighbour Penny. We share plants, food, and other great memories just over our backyard fence.”

The viral video has clocked over 7 million views on Instagram so far. Here’s how users reacted to it in the comments section:

    “This is beautiful.”

    “Luckiest neighbours.”

    “That’s so cute.”

    “The way Penny said ‘YES’.”

“I wish I were their neighbour!!”

“Tell me if your neighbour wants to sell their house at any point, please.”

“I LOVE THIS! This is what community is all about.”

    “Punjabis are big-hearted people.”

    “So wholesome! Love this!”

“We need Penny’s reaction after eating pakoras.”

Apart from such videos, posts about foreigners genuinely enjoying Indian food also go viral on social media frequently. Recently, a video of a Scottish vlogger trying mishti doi for the first time received a lot of interest online.

  • Global Community Recognises Pak As “Epicentre Of Terrorism”: India

The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, said that numerous foreign leaders have acknowledged India’s right to defend itself and protect its citizens, emphasising that the epicentre of terrorism is in Pakistan.

The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, on Tuesday stated that the global community has shown a clear understanding of India’s plight and recognised that the Pahalgam terrorist attack targeted Indian tourists and that the epicentre of terrorism lies across the border in Pakistan.

He said that numerous foreign leaders have acknowledged India’s right to defend itself and protect its citizens, emphasising that the epicentre of terrorism is in Pakistan.

While addressing a question of India and Pakistan ‘hyphenation,’ Mr Jaiswal, while addressing the MEA briefing, said, “There is widespread understanding in the world that Indian tourists were the victims of terrorism at Pahalgam and that the epicentre of terrorism is across the border in Pakistan. A number of foreign leaders, in their conversations with Indian counterparts, recognised India’s right to defend itself and protect its people.”

He added, “I also draw your attention to the UN Security Council press statement of 25th April, which states that – ‘there is a need to uphold perpetrators, organisers, financiers and sponsors of this reprehensible act of terrorism accountable and bring them to justice.’ They further stressed that those responsible for these killings should be held accountable.”

Mr Jaiswal also spoke about the abeyance of the Indus Water Treaty (IWT) and highlighted that while the treaty was originally founded on the principles of goodwill and friendship, “Pakistan held these principles in abeyance by its promotion of cross-border terrorism.”

“After the CCS (Cabinet Committee on Security) decision, the Indus Water Treaty has been put in abeyance. I would also like to take you back a little. The IWT was concluded in the spirit of goodwill and friendship as specified in the preamble of the treaty. However, Pakistan has held these principles in abeyance by its promotion of cross-border terrorism for several decades now. Now, as per the CCS decision, India will keep the treaty in abeyance until Pakistan credibly and irrevocably abjures its support for cross-border terrorism. Please note that climate change, demographic shifts and technological changes have created new realities on the ground as well,” Mr Jaiswal said.

Mr Jaiswal, during the press briefing, also stated that Pakistan’s attempt to escape the consequences of its actions is futile, given its long history of supporting terrorism. He highlighted that the terrorist infrastructure sites destroyed by India were responsible for the deaths of not only Indians but also many other innocents around the world.

“We have seen the statement made by the Pakistani side. That a nation which has nurtured terrorism on an industrial scale should think that it can escape the consequences is fooling itself. The terrorist infrastructure sites that India destroyed were responsible not only for the deaths of Indians but also of many other innocents around the world. There is now a new normal. The sooner Pakistan gets used to it, the better,” he said.

Mr Jaiswal’s remarks came after Pakistan’s Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, in his first interview since India and Pakistan’s cessation of hostilities, said that Islamabad “had no choice” but to launch strikes in “self-defence” following India’s May 7 cross-border attacks.

Dar referred to India’s strikes as a “war” and a “wishful attempt to establish its hegemony” and claimed that “We were very sure that our conventional capacity and capabilities are strong enough that we will beat them both in the air and on the ground.”

  • Minister “Ready To Apologise 10 Times” Over Colonel Qureshi Remark

Vijay Shah, BJP leader and Tribal Welfare Minister, made the controversial comments during a public speech, prompting severe criticism from opposition parties and military veterans.

A minister in Madhya Pradesh triggered a row following remarks widely interpreted as an offensive reference to Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, the high-ranking Indian Army officer often seen accompanying Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri during press briefings on Operation Sindoor.

Vijay Shah, BJP leader and Tribal Welfare Minister, made the controversial comments during a public speech, prompting severe criticism from opposition parties and military veterans.

In a speech delivered by Mr Shah at a gathering near Indore, he appeared to equate Col Qureshi’s role in the military with a communal and gendered insult aimed at Pakistan and its people. The Congress has demanded his immediate removal from the state cabinet, while Mr Shah has since attempted to defuse the situation by offering multiple apologies.

“Sister Sofhia has brought glory to India by rising above caste and religion. She is more respected than our own sister. I salute her for her service to the nation. We cannot even think of insulting her in our dreams. Still, if my words have hurt society and religion, then I am ready to apologise ten times,” he said.

During his speech, Mr Shah drew a connection between the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which left 26 people dead, and Operation Sindoor. Referring obliquely but unmistakably to Col Qureshi, he claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi sent “a sister from their [the terrorists’] community” in an Indian Air Force aircraft to “strip them of their pride” and “teach them a lesson.”

“Those people (terrorists) who had wiped out the sindoor (vermilion) of our sisters (in the Pahalgam terror attack)..We avenged these ‘kate-pite’ people by sending their sister to destroy them. They (terrorists) killed our Hindu brothers by making them remove their clothes. PM Modi ji responded by sending their (terrorists’) sister in an Army plane to strike them in their houses. They (terrorists) made our sisters widows, so Modiji sent the sister of their community to strip them and teach them a lesson,” the BJP leader said.

Col Qureshi, alongside Wing Commander Vyomika Singh and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, has been the face of official press briefings detailing Operation Sindoor.

The Congress party termed Mr Shah’s remarks “derogatory, communal and shameful.” Party president Mallikarjun Kharge issued a statement on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), urging Prime Minister Narendra Modi to sack Shah immediately.

“A minister of the BJP government of Madhya Pradesh has made a very derogatory, shameful and cheap remark about our brave daughter Colonel Sofiya Qureshi. The terrorists of Pahalgam wanted to divide the country, but the country was united during the entire ‘Operation Sindoor’ to give a befitting reply to the terrorists,” Mr Kharge posted on X.

Madhya Pradesh Congress President Jitu Patwari posted a video of Mr Shah’s speech on social media and accused the BJP of endorsing “low thinking” and “hate-filled rhetoric.” The state unit of the Congress described Shah’s comments as an “attack on national unity, military dignity and the honour of Indian women.”

  • No Group Issued Threat Against Manipur’s Shirui Lily Festival: Police

Manipur Director General of Police Rajiv Singh went to Ukhrul district for two days to oversee security arrangements ahead of the Shirui Lily Festival 2025

The Manipur Police said they have found no organisation called ‘Kuki Zo Village Volunteer – Eastern Zone’ (KZVV-EZ) that allegedly threatened members of the Meitei community against passing by Kuki villages while going to a district in northern Manipur where the state-level Shirui Lily Festival 2025 is scheduled to be held from May 20 to 24.

The police said they will make adequate security arrangements to ensure and facilitate free movement of people for the Shirui Lily Festival, which is being promoted by the state government. The festival celebrates the rare, endangered state flower Shirui Lily that grows in the hills of Ukhrul district, the home of Tangkhul Naga tribe and other Naga communities.

Earlier, the purported group ‘Kuki Zo Village Volunteer – Eastern Zone’ in a statement on social media warned that “any violation of this direction will be considered intentional, and individuals shall bear full responsibility for any consequences that may follow.”

The social media post attributed to the ‘KZVV-EZ’ surfaced a day after Manipur Director General of Police Rajiv Singh went to Ukhrul to oversee security arrangements ahead of the Shirui Lily Festival.

Manipur is under the President’s rule.

The group ‘Kuki Zo Village Volunteer – Eastern Zone’ does not share the same name as the ‘Village Volunteers Eastern Zone’, or VVEZ.

While the VVEZ has not given a statement on the Shirui Lily Festival, earlier on March 8, the deadline set by Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla to surrender illegally held and looted weapons, the VVEZ published a video statement – seven of its masked members in camouflage and carrying AK series and other assault rifles – asserting they will not lay down arms until their demand for a separate administration was met.

The Manipur State Transport has announced bus service timings from the state capital Imphal to Ukhrul from May 20 to 24 for those who want to visit the picturesque hill town popular with tourists.

The Naga insurgent group National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Isak-Muivah) or NSCN (IM), responding to the purported Kuki group’s May 11 statement threatening members of the Meitei community who may visit Ukhrul for the Shirui Lily Festival, said it will “not tolerate if KZVV-EZ make any wild attempt to disturb the streaming tourists targeting any particular community travelling to Ukhrul/Shirui village.”

The NSCN (IM) said the festival also serves as a platform for raising awareness about environmental conservation and cultural heritage of the Tangkhul Naga and other Naga communities. The NSCN (IM) signed a framework agreement with the central government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2015 to work towards bringing peace in Nagaland.

Tangkhul Naga social worker Asang Kashar condemned the warning by the Kuki group.

“This is directly a challenge to every citizen of Manipur and shows they (Kukis) are against peace,” Mr Kashar said.

The Naga and the Kuki tribes have fought in the 90s; hundreds including women and children were killed.

The Kuki tribes and the Meiteis have been fighting since May 2023 over a range of issues such as land rights and political representation. Over 260 have died and nearly 50,000 have been internally displaced.

  • “Damage Control”: Congress’ Jairam Ramesh On All-Party Delegations

The all-party delegations will project India’s national consensus and resolute approach to combating terrorism in all forms and manifestations.

Congress General Secretary in charge of Communications, Jairam Ramesh, on Monday criticised the Central government, describing the decision to send a delegation to key partner countries as a ‘damage control’ effort.

Mr Ramesh claimed that India’s ‘Vishwa Guru’ image has taken a hit following tensions with Pakistan.
He further argued that the delegation’s visit to key partner countries to highlight India’s ongoing fight against cross-border terrorism and Operation Sindoor would have been more appropriate if it had come after an all-party meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“…Congress party believes that an all-party meeting should have been done before this and PM Modi should have chaired the meeting…Our second demand was to hold a special session of the Parliament to discuss the issues of the relationship between China and Pakistan,” Mr Ramesh told ANI.

“If this delegation had gone after this, then it would have made a lot more sense…You are sending 7 delegations now, but what is the difference that it is going to make? Our narrative has already gotten worse. Pakistan and India are again being compared…The narrative of ‘Vishwa Guru’ has also gotten worse,” the Congress Rajya Sabha MP added.

Mr Ramesh further criticised the government for omitting three of the names recommended by the party for the all-party delegation.

“This delegation is going for damage control. We have been saying that we need to stay united, and we are standing with our armed forces like a rock. We have said that Operation Sindoor is a historic operation, but PM Modi does not speak with the LoP or the Congress President. They ask us to give names. When we gave 4 names, they picked only one of them and added names on their own. What type of politics is this?” he added.

The all-party delegations will project India’s national consensus and resolute approach to combating terrorism in all forms and manifestations. They would carry forth to the world the country’s strong message of zero tolerance against terrorism.

According to Congress, the party had submitted four names to the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs by May 16, but the final list released late on May 17 included only one of the suggested names.

The list includes MPs from multiple parties, divided into seven groups of 8-9 members. A leader has been assigned for each group, who will lead the delegation at a global level.

This came after India’s decisive military response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7, targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, leading to the death of over 100 terrorists affiliated with terror outfits like the Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba and Hizbul Mujahideen.

After the attack, Pakistan retaliated with cross-border shelling across the Line of Control and Jammu and Kashmir as well as attempted drone attacks along the border regions, following which India launched a coordinated attack and damaged radar infrastructure, communication centres and airfields across 11 airbases in Pakistan.
